Next Meeting on July 8th at 6:00pm

The next meeting of the Maine Flash Platform User Group will be on July 8th at 6:00pm at the offices of Penobscot Bay Media, LLC, in Camden, Maine. Penobscot Bay Media has moved up the street to 51 Mechanic Street, Suite 300. This is the old Kodak Center building, for those familiar with the area. There is plenty of free parking next to the building.

We'll be discussing group objectives: what would you like to see us doing; are we meeting on the best night; can people make it to meetings in other towns, etc.

We'll also take another go round with what everyone is up to.

Finally, we'll roll the dice to see if we give away the big software package from Adobe. We'll start giving out tickets for the software drawings. Each meeting you go to gets you a ticket. When the drawing happens, you must be present and have the matching tiket to win. Giving a presentation will earn you more tickets (two or three depending on the length of the presentation). After the drawing takes place, all the tickets get tossed and we start fresh.

Hope to see you there!

Please contact Kirk Holbrook (kholbrook[at]gwi[dot]net), if you would like more information.

Next Meeting on June 10th at 6:00pm

Again, sorry for the short notice. I've been trying to nail down the topic for tomorrow (Tuesday) evening.

We'll choose form a couple of pre-recorded presentations. One, which I'd like to see sometime soon, is paired programming with test driven development. It's presented with ColdFusion, I think, but it looks very interesting. I'll also have a couple choices related to Flash and/or Flex. We'll vote on the one to watch at the meeting.

Please contact Kirk Holbrook (kholbrook[at]gwi[dot]net), if you would like more information.

No Meeting on April 15th, 2008

Sorry, but family obligations have come up, so we'll not be meeting this Tuesday, April 15th. Take a little extra time and get your taxes done!

We'll resume our regular schedule. The next meeting will be on May 13th. We'll look at some of the new features in Flex Builder 3 in depth. We'll also discuss some of the security features of the latest Flash Player.

Hope to see you in May.

No Meeting Tonight (March 11, 2008)

Since we had two meetings last month, we will not be having our regularly scheduled meeting this evening.

And since Sherrie and I are expecting a baby any day now, I'm not positive about the April meeting, but it probably will be held April 15th. I know, that's not the schedule either, but....

So, get your taxes done early, and plan to be there.

At our last meeting, we had a Flex 3 and Air 1.0 release party. Adobe was generous with a budget for us. We gave away a free copy of Flex Builder 3 to Caleb Winslow. Carl Trapani picked up the free PSP (Star Wars Edition), which BTW can play Flash content (Flash 6 SWFs). Others received some lesser prizes. And, of course, everyone got a free t-shirt.

And we rolled the dice. Doubles came up a couple of times, which we decided on the spur of the moment (and with a good crowd) meant "roll again." So we did, and 7 came up. So, we raffled off an Adobe software package, which Bruce Bird (a Very Regular Attendee) won. We'll start rolling the dice again in July. But don't let that deter you from coming to the meetings in the meantime.

I still have to post the 30OnAir videos, but I'll let you know when they're up.

Special Meeting Tonight (Feb. 25): Flex 3 and AIR

Join the Maine Flash Platform User Group for this "can't miss" meeting! Adobe announced the immediate availability of Flex 3 and AIR today.

Adobe's RIA technologies enable you to rapidly build and deploy the most engaging applications across browsers and on the desktop. The Maine Flash Platform User Group is hosting a special live event to share exciting new information on Adobe's platform tools and technologies for building RIAs. You'll see an exclusive user group video presentation by Adobe Chief Software Architect, Kevin Lynch, hear some important product news, plus get your hands on some exclusive schwag and other giveaways. We have a free copy of Flex Builder 3 to raffle, as well as a Sony Playstation Portable (Star Wars Edition), and some other cool things. There are even some limited edition t-shirts!

We will also roll the dice to see if we'll give away a big software package from Adobe.

Be part of the fun and excitement and join the rest of the Adobe developer community by participating in this very special event.

Bring along some friends! If we have 50 or more in attendance, Adobe will provide an additional (and VERY nice) item to raffle.

Monday, February 25 at 6:00pm at the offices of Penobscot Bay Media, LLC, in Camden, Maine.

This meeting will take the place of our meeting in March. Hope to see you there.

Next Meeting on February 12th at 6:00pm

The next meeting of the Maine Flash Platform User Group will be on February 12th at 6:00pm at the offices of Penobscot Bay Media, LLC, in Camden, Maine. Penobscot Bay Media has moved up the street to 51 Mechanic Street, Suite 300. This is the old Kodak Center building, for those familiar with the area. There is plenty of free parking next to the building.

We will be taking a look at some tips for animating with Flash. I saw a great presentation recently by Chris Georgenes, author of How to Cheat in Adobe Flash CS3. So, I thought we might all like to see Chris' presentation -- especially since we've been talking about Flex a lot lately.

We will roll the dice to see if we have a big software giveaway from Adobe (7 or 11 means we draw that night!). In December we talked about a few different ways to spice up the software drawings. After a vote, we decided to roll the dice each month (until we have the drawing). You must be present to win the big prize. So, no one will know ahead of time when the big drawing will be, unless it happens to be in June or December. We give away two packages from Adobe each year: one for January through June, and one for July through December. We did NOT roll a 7 or an 11 in January!

Please contact Kirk Holbrook (kholbrook[at]gwi[dot]net), if you would like more information.
